This buffet is based on a piece by Gerrit
Rietveld, a Dutch designer in the early 1900's.
This is one of Rietveld's most complicated pieces of furniture and few are still
in existence.
With white painted ends, this piece has been hand crafted from solid white oak
and maple.

Gerrit Rietveld was part of the de Stijl movement. The movement was to return to handmade furniture and revolting against the "machine age" of production. He is most famous for his Red & Blue Chair. See a comparison
of Rietveld's original buffet and To learn more about Rietveld and the group of de Stijl designers, see Fine Woodworking, #65, 1987. |
